Blockchain
cornerstone of traceability
Traceability supported by Blockchain technology brings concrete advantages to both companies and consumers, providing a guarantee on the integrity of the supply chain, protecting products from counterfeiting and satisfying customers' demand for transparency.
What is meant by “Blockchain”
The term blockchain literally means a chain of data. We could imagine it as a sort of book, whose task is essentially to facilitate the process of recording transactions and corporate monitoring. In the legal field, in fact, "things that can form the object of rights are assets" (Art. 810 of the Civil Code) and as a Latin brocardo states, bona ex eo dicuntur quod beant, hoc faciunt; beare est prodesse (Goods are so called because they bring good, that is, they make one satisfied; to satisfy means to be useful).
An asset can be tangible (think, for example, a car, real estate) or intangible (intellectual property, copyrights, patents) and on a blockchain network anything of value can be tracked and traded. reducing risk and cutting costs for all involved.
The purpose of the blockchain is to record and distribute digital information, but not to modify it. That's why it is the basis for immutable records that cannot be altered, erased or destroyed.
Hence, in fact, the name distributed ledger technology (DLT) or distributed ledger technology.
As a database, a blockchain stores information electronically in a digital format and their characteristic is to ensure the fidelity and security of a data record, generating that trust without the need for a trusted third party.
Blockchains are best known for their crucial role in cryptocurrency systems, such as bitcoin, to maintain a secure and decentralized record of transactions. This technology collects information in groups, the so-called blocks, which contain a set of information. The data is stored in blocks and is linked together using encryption. When new data arrives, it fits into a new block. Once the block is filled with data, it is concatenated to the previous block, which makes that data concatenated together in chronological order.
