Mermaid

Safety at sea

The sea is freedom, adventure, passion. But it is also an environment that leaves no room for improvisation, especially when it comes to health. A sudden illness, an injury, a critical situation on board: on land, it takes just a few minutes to reach an emergency room. At sea, those minutes can turn into hours — and every hour counts.

It is from this awareness that Mermaid, the project we are working on with conviction, is born: a digital telemedicine and health safety platform designed for those who navigate, whether for pleasure or work. A system that combines artificial intelligence, wearable medical devices, and satellite communications to bring the expertise of a qualified medical center on board every vessel.

"The sea does not forgive improvisation. Mermaid provides safety, expertise, and readiness to every crew."

The problem that Mermaid solves

Those who navigate know: outside coastal waters, the distance from a medical port can be enormous. Wounds, burns, acute pain, allergic reactions — situations that are managed in a few minutes on land become complex emergencies at sea, with the additional difficulty of not having either the personnel or the tools to assess their severity.

For merchant ships, the situation is even more critical: a health emergency can force a change in course, with extremely high costs for the shipowner and response times not always compatible with the severity of the case. The ILO/IMO recommendations regarding the health and well-being of crews are clear, but often difficult to implement in a concrete and continuous manner.

Mermaid was created to fill this gap, transforming every vessel into a connected unit of health protection — always ready, always connected, anywhere in the Mediterranean and beyond.

How the platform works

Mermaid is an integrated ecosystem that operates as a medical-digital bridge between those at sea and a land-based health support center, active 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The architecture is designed to function even in the absence of a connection, thanks to locally available informational resources on the device.

Intelligenza Artificiale

An AI that assists without replacing the doctor

Mermaid's artificial intelligence operates at two levels in a transparent and explainable: on board it supports triage and guides the first responder step-by-step; on land it processes the received data, checks clinical trends, and alerts healthcare personnel to priority situations. In no case does it make autonomous clinical judgments: the doctor always remains at the center of the decision.

Chi può usare Mermaid — e come

The platform is designed for a broad ecosystem: recreational boaters and sailors navigating independently, crews of merchant and work ships, marine insurance companies, brokers, and maritime agencies in major tourist ports. Access is through direct subscription, via a network of affiliated partners, or as an extension of the insurance policy.

The model is scalable and modular: integrable with major operating systems and wearables, compatible with international regulations (ILO/IMO), and designed to evolve towards personal and collective digital health in the nautical sector.

In case of emergency, the ground operator can guide an onboard intervention in real time, support communication with affiliated medical centers, assist in redirecting the vessel to the nearest port, and — in the most serious cases — coordinate the activation of SAR services or an emergency evacuation.

"Every vessel becomes a connected unit of well-being and health protection — always ready, always connected."

Un progetto che guarda lontano

Mermaid is not just a product: it is the vision of what health safety at sea should be in the digital age. A project that has already surpassed the experimental phase, testing real emergency scenarios in collaboration with the Italian Naval League and specialized healthcare operators, and which today positions itself as a strategic infrastructure for the modernization of maritime safety — recognized and co-financed under the PNRR and FESR programs.

Siamo orgogliosi di far parte di questo progetto. Perché la tecnologia ha senso quando migliora concretamente la vita delle persone — e in mare, quella tecnologia può letteralmente salvarla.
